The number of foreign visitors to Turkey fell 2.88 percent year-on-year in August to 5.13 million people, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released on Tuesday.

The number of foreigners arriving in Turkey in August 2015 were 5.13 million, down 2.88 percent from the same month of previous year, the report said.

 

There were 638,439 Russian visitors in August, down from 776.494 in August 2014,  a decline of 17.78 percent according to the report.

 

Russian tourists, who made up almost 14.7 percent of Turkey’s visitors last August, declined to 12.4 percent of total visitors this year.

 

Russian tourists, traditionally keen visitors to Turkey’s seacoast, were particularly hit by the slide in value of the Russian ruble.

 

In the first eight months of the year, the number was down 0.89 percent to 25.51 million people.
